"Please, come again with your daughter, Granny"
I was hurt by the store clerk's words that it was not a product that I would need.
But, I did not give up.
My computer teacher said iPad was the best for it.
Buying it was the only thing on my mind.
I bought an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil,
and left the store without the need to bring my daughter.
Since I was young, I liked to learn something whenever I had the opportunity.
It was a time when it was natural for women to marry instead of going to a high school.
But, I took an entrance exam to Iksan Girls' High School without my parents knowing, and got accepted.
I cannot forget that moment.
Even though, my father did not say a word of compliiment, he sold thirty bags of barley to pay for my tuition.
Even after getting married, I always thought, "Is there anything I can learn and do?"
We were always short on living expenses, and my husband, who is a public servant, did not accept any bribe.
I had to learn something and make a living out of it.
I wanted to build a house, so I grabbed someone at the construction site and asked.
I learned how to build a house.
I learned how to obtain a construction permit.
I learned how to sign a construction contract.
I learned how to sell and rent a house.
Eventually, this learning turned into a real estate development business.
When the house wouldn't sell, I enrolled in an embroidery school.
I bought a sewing machine and practiced embroidery from time to time.
One day, the sewing machine broke down and I asked the repairman who came to fix the machine to teach me how to open an embroidery factory.
One by one, I did what I was told to do, and the teaching became a factory with ten skilled workers.
Years went by and the world changed.
I had a hunch that if I didn't learn the computer, I would remain a fool.
"Granny, do you have to learn computers? Please, go somewhere else."
These were the words of the computer teacher.
It must have been suprising to see a very old elderly to come and learn.
Nevertheless, I withstood and attended classes dilligently.
After enduring three years like that, I learned how to use both computers and smartphones.
I was the best at making slideshows.
I used all these various shapes available in the program,
and everybody in the class were surprised saying, "How come you are so good at this".
The computer teacher told me, 'Granny, you should try drawing on the computer. I bet you would be good at that."
So, I decided to give it a try.
I bought the iPad after many twists and turns, but I didn't know how to use it.
Since then, youtubers and google became my teacher.
When my youtube teacher's words were talking too fast,
I turned on and off the iPad and took notes.
I learned thoughout the day and night.
I learned the necessary tools very slowly one by one: what I needed to click to remove, how I can change the thickness of the pen, or its color.
There is always shame in the process of learning.
You have to endure that shame to learn.
There are over 900 posts on my Instagram.
